Foods To Avoid

A well balanced diet that minimizes sweets and sugared beverages is important. Hard, sticky, and/or crunchy foods should not be eaten to avoid damaging your braces.

Stay away from HARD FOODS like :

  • Popcorn
  • Nuts
  • Peanut brittle
  • Corn chips
  • Ice
  • Pizza crust
  • Pretzels
  • Hard candy
  • Corn-on-the-Cob

Hard foods may damage your braces by bending your wires and/or loosening your brackets/bands.

Avoid STICKY FOODS like:

  • Taffy
  • Caramel
  • Fruit Roll-Ups
  • Gum
  • Licorice
  • Gummy bears

Sticky foods damage your braces by bending wires and pulling brackets/bands loose.

BRUSH/RINSE immediately after sweets like :

  • Candy
  • Soda pop
  • Shakes/Malts
  • Ice Cream
  • Cupcakes
  • Cookies
  • Cereals
  • Cake/Pie

High sugar foods increase the likelihood of plaque build-up. If you do eat these foods, you should brush or rinse immediately afterwards.

EAT with care:

  • Fruits
  • Carrots
  • Pizza
  • Meats
  • Crackers
  • Hard breads

All of these foods should be sliced into smaller pieces and eaten carefully to avoid damage to your braces.

Increase your intake of CALCIUM and VITAMIN C :

  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Orange Juice
  • Yogurt
  • Melons
  • Broccoli

Calcium and Vitamin C are very important for healing bone and gum tissue that were affected by the movement of your teeth.
